Saying goodbye to a pet is something that most pet owners will have to do at some point. We all wish our four-legged friends could live forever, but unfortunately there will come a time when we need to consider whether to have them humanely euthanized. Determining the “when” is never easy, but you don’t have to make the decision alone. Here at Triangle Animal Clinic, we can answer any questions you have and provide appropriate care recommendations.

If you know your

pet’s health is declining

or their quality of life is decreasing for other reasons, we encourage you to schedule an appointment. We can evaluate your pet and give you guidance on the next step. The following scale can also help:

Should you decide to have your dog or cat euthanized, know that we will give them the most humane, comfortable experience possible as they cross over the rainbow bridge. Here’s what you can expect at your appointment.

Upon Your Arrival

When you arrive at our veterinary clinic, we’ll do our best to ensure that you’re given all the time and information you need. Part of that information involves the body care options after the euthanasia, which include cremation or taking the body home for burial. One of our caring front desk team members will discuss these options with you upon your arrival. Although a quote will be presented to you at this time, you have the option to pay before or after the euthanasia. Our goal isn’t just to make your pet as comfortable as possible in their last moments, but to be considerate of your needs and preferences during this difficult time.

About the Euthanasia Process

After you have made your decision on after care and signed the required paperwork, you will be escorted to a private room, where a technician will discuss the euthanasia process. The entire process takes less than a minute and is completely painless for your pet. However, you can take as much time as you’d like to be alone with your pet before the process begins. We’re also available to answer any questions you have before, during, or after the process.

After the Euthanasia

You can be alone with your pet for as long as you would like after the euthanasia is complete. Simply let us know when you’re ready for us to return to the room. At that time, we will cover your pet with a soft blanket and prepare them for the body care option you selected upon your arrival. We can also discuss memorial options, which we would be happy to discuss with you during your visit.

"It's so hard to say goodbye to a beloved four-legged family member, and that goodbye, no matter how old the furry friend is, always feels far too soon. Here at Triangle Animal Clinic, we hope to ease our clients' uncertainty during such difficult times with difficult decisions."
